I have struggled being raw during winter because I live in a really rural area in North Dakota. It’s hard to be raw during winter when the closest store is 40 miles away and you get feet of snow and negative digits so you aren’t able to get to stores due to road closures!
Great subject. I’m a 57 year old male who just went raw 3 weeks ago and feel amazing. I’ve lost 22 lbs in the last 22 days. I have more energy, and just feel like I haven’t felt in years, healthy in the body and attitude. I’ve gone from eating a box of trash snack cakes to eating bitter greens and fruit. I do miss eating cooked food, but when I think about the benefits of eating raw and the way it makes my body and mind feel I lose the desire for cooked.
I live in Northern Saskatchewan in Canada and I am eating predominantly raw. Some days I have some baked potato and yam in the evening with a salad and maybe some fermented sauerkraut but other than that, I just do the juices, the fruits, the smoothies, salads, and if I am cold, I drink hot water or I sit in front of our woodstove or I go take a hot bath or I just bundle up. I made the decision to put my health first this year, so I’m just sucking it up. A hot water bottle or a heating pad can also be of comfort in the cold climates. We’ve already had where it feels like -47°C so it gets pretty cold here.
Spicy foods help me in winter AND I sip warm water when I get very cold.
I make a salad and slice thin slices of peppers to add in. I do that with a lot of my foods. I also sprinkle chili powder onto my mangoes. I like it very much!
I eat a lot of zucchini noodles and make a tomato sauce in my blender. You can let it blend to warm and it’s delicious. I will also lightly steam broccoli or cauliflower, green beans not cooked but warm on top of my huge salads keeps me eating mostly raw. I live in AR and it got down to 7 degrees. I want to move to a warm tropical climate.
This time of the year, it’s crucial to get plenty of vitamin C. Been drinking this smoothie every day. Don’t even need a vitamix. Can use a Nutra Bullet. Add some frozen pineapple, some chopped fresh ginger, add fresh squeezed orange juice. Blend and enjoy!
I love how steadfast and committed you are Paul.
“I have no desire for cooked food, and I don’t want to create a desire for it either”
Really, really good.

Sometimes I’ll let vegetables like pepper and onions sit int he dehydrator for a few minutes to warm them slightly.
