5 thoughts on “Exodus 23 You shall not cut a covenant with other gods.

  1. Thank you.

Does anyone know if cutting a covenant (verse 32) is the same as yoking oneself to another (2 Corinthians 6:14)? What kind of contracts in our culture today fall under the umbrella of yokes and covenants?

Also, the verse that follows (Exodus 33) says that the people who are forbidden for covenantal relationship, are the very same people who are forbidden to live in their land, i.e. the land taken from the former inhabitants and given to the children of Israel. I suppose we can call those former inhabitants enemies of YHVH, and I guess they are different from the sojourners who submit to the laws of YHVH while they were/are temporaily residing with the children of Israel. Does anyohe have any insight on the other times and peoples who were allowed to dwell with the children of Israel? Is there a difference between them (Ruth!) and enemies whom YHVW drives out and away from His chosen people?

  2. Check out the AMP version of Exodus 23: 4,5.

4 “If you meet your enemy’s ox or his donkey wandering off, you must bring it back to him. 5 If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying helpless under its load, you shall not leave the man to deal with it [alone]; you must help him release the animal [from its burden].

Yikes! 😧 Let me always remember this, YHVH, in the name, Yeshua. 🙏🏾
