” If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, ( THIS IS NOT AGREEING WITH HIM) just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over- ( Meaning that you two are united in agreement through properly dividing the scriptures and using scripture to show and prove the error of one’s ways.) But if he will not listen, ( Will not agree with you and with what scripture says) take one or two others along ( Who agree with the scriptures- who follow scriptures rightly) so that every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses. ( Our lifestyles lived in righteousness according to the Word of God acts as a testimony and as we become a witness to the truth of the word.) If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church ( Not church as in the congregation, this is to tell as a warning to fellow brethren who live in that area so that they are not deceived or hurt by him, or fall victim to his ways.) and if he refuses to listen even to the church ( Those whom you’ve told in the way of gaining consensus) treat him as you would a pagan or tax collector.” ( Expel the immoral brother.)
Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask ( Ask for as in the way of spiritual righteousness not for things of this earth) for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, ( Agree in harmony of spirit- where two or more of the same righteous heart living in the name of Jesus – this is the ACTIONS of Jesus. ) there I am with them.” Matthew 18:19-10
To agree with someone when they are in error is to go against scripture because to agree as the world agrees is to become a sympathizer to the ways of the world. While we admonish in love, we must be careful to show mercy and grace, yes but we also must not forsake God’s word in order to keep the peace among believers. We must not sympathize with sin because scripture tells us to placate sin, or to have anything to do with it corrupts the righteous, NOT the other way around.
God rewards those who follow Him through His son Jesus. God specifically tells us to ‘Hide the word in our hearts so we might not sin against Him.’ Agreeing with someone who is a sinner is not what God wants and this is not what He rewards. ” Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Matthew 5:48
We are to judge those who are fellow believers, we are not to judge those who are not because we once were sinners- still are but never the less, to not to judge people – how will we ever know in the spirit in which someone comes in? How will we know how to determine a wolf in sheep’s clothing? Scripture tells us we even have to judge ourselves and work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. To love someone as we love ourselves means to love someone enough to teach them what we have learned- the truth through Jesus. With learning the truth comes admonishment and discipline. We can’t always agree, nor should we and neither did the apostles. In the apostle’s letters we are shown the division on circumcision and other matters they had with one another and Paul even warned those he wrote to about the erroneous teachings of some who he once was in agreement with.

There is small stuff that can separate us, like tattoos. But doctrine has become an offensive word. The Christian faith is based on doctrine. To actually espouse doctrinal precepts like, eternal security or that we’re no longer under the law (Read Romans and Galatians) brings on a torrent of hatred, dirty or gloating looks, shunning– all responses in my opinion that demonstrate the likelihood that they’re not saved. Jesus said there are many false prophets and Paul spoke of ducking false converts. How do we be merciless to each other when Jesus showed us incredible mercy by taking the most appalling beating in the history of mankind? It doesn’t compute. So sometimes unity is not possible because error is so glaring and contradictory to the Word, that it would be a bondage to just go-along with it. I hate division in the church with a passion, but the most key biblical truths cannot be compromised or we are not walking fully in power.
