ABOUT YOM KIPPUR:
ABOUT MICHAEL ROOD:
Thank you. God bless you.
Thank you for sharing this. I would like to add that the traditional concept of fasting by not eating or very limited eating does not fully encompass the principle of fasting on a spiritual level. Spiritually speaking, fasting is denying ourselves the normal urges and indulgences that our body and mind crave. The things that we partake of that produce pleasure will often dominate our behavior and thoughts. The point is to put all of those into subjection as declared by Paul.
1 Corinthians 9:27 But I keep my body under [control], and bring [it] into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a reject.
Romans 8:5 For those that are under the control of the flesh are continually thinking about fleshly things; but those that are under the control of the Spirit think about spiritual things.
6 For fleshly thinking is death; but spiritual mindedness is [zoe] life and peace.
7 Because fleshly thinking is hostile towards God: for it is not coming under subjection to the law of God, nor is it capable of being so.
8 So then those that are continually in the flesh are not able to please God.
Shalom!
Lev 23:32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.
The word translated as “afflict” is the Hebrew word “`anah“.
Brown-Driver_Briggs defines it as:
1. (Qal) to be occupied, be busied with
2. to afflict, oppress, humble, be afflicted, be bowed down
a. (Qal)
1. to be put down, become low
2. to be depressed, be downcast
3. to be afflicted
4. to stoop
b. (Niphal)
1. to humble oneself, bow down
2. to be afflicted, be humbled
c. (Piel)
1. to humble, mishandle, afflict
2. to humble, be humiliated
3. to afflict
4. to humble, weaken oneself
d. (Pual)
1. to be afflicted
2. to be humbled
e. (Hiphil) to afflict
f. (Hithpael)
1. to humble oneself
2. to be afflicted
Strong’s defines it as:
A primitive root (possibly rather identical with H6030 through the idea of looking down or browbeating); to depress literally or figuratively transitively or intransitively (in various applications). (sing is by mistake for H6030.): – abase self afflict (-ion self) answer [by mistake for H6030] chasten self deal hardly with defile exercise force gentleness humble (self) hurt ravish sing [by mistake for H6030] speak [by mistake for H6030] submit self weaken X in any wise.
In many versions other than the King James, this word is frequently translated as “humble”, which is far more fitting in the context than “afflict”.
When we come before Yeshua, who is making atonement for us, it is fitting for us to humble ourselves, as Moses did. By humbling our souls, we realize that it is only by His atoning sacrifice that we are saved and forgiven. This is the attitude with which we are to approach His grace.
Secondarily, the point of a Sabbath is to rest. Many Sabbaths include feasts, as well, as it is easy to feast and relax at the same time! But no Sabbath listed in the scriptures requires a fast, as fasting and resting don’t work well together. The idea of fasting on the Day of Atonement is a Rabbinical teaching (a man made teaching) and is not found anywhere in scripture.
David Dixon … Exactly what I was getting from my prayer and study.
David Dixon don’t forget to research the word soul too! 🙂
I think fasting & resting work fine together.
Thanks for the help love you guys
Thank you so much for this video. There are alot of videos out there but what I wanted to know is… WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING AT THIS TIME? This video was direct and simplistic… thank you!
Fast from sundown to sundown, deny ourselves, afflict our souls, Read Our Father’s Word of Truth, Pray and Praise. Halleluyah!
What time and day are we suppose to fast?
We are starting this evening (the 30th) to tomorrow evening (Oct 1)
Love you guys! good to see you both unedited 🙂

A future day of judgement is not for the firstfruits; It is time judgement begin at the House of Yahweh, I Kepha/Peter 4: 17. That’s today. Education, encouragement, correction. Through much tribulation ye shall enter the Kingdom of Yahweh, Acts 14: 22. Partly because of judgment of correction?
We go to the Bacon Street synagogue ( yes, there really is a Bacon Street Synagogue), to be with our brother Judah and afflict our souls (their prayers are long-suffering and eloquently beautiful – but helps remind us of what we could not remember ourselves). The participants are ‘heartfelt as family’, candid and Love Torah. After 4 hours of affliction we, (my husband and i ), find a stream or river – flowing or running water and Mikvha then we rest in His Shalom. Then we dress and back to our brother Judahs place and Break fast and enjoy YAHs’ Kingdom to come here, and love one another. Thank You for sharing and all who share and want more of HIM. Shalom! Thank you Anny and Scott we love you. Thank You Michael for the opportunity to be able to gain strength through your encouragement, steadfastness, faithfulness and Love for Our Redeemer. You are a Joy!
Today. This is it
Thank you. Going to share this video with family and friends. Very helpful. Shalom.
Wow. Thank you for this. Until today, I didn’t really fully understand Yom Kippur. This video confirmed what I felt God dropped into my spirit yesterday over the question of affliction.
… yes, atonement is absolutely essential … Yeshua paying ‘once-and-for-all’ … but, as we live in the world, a ‘day’ of atonement is essential to ‘keep a current account’ … we have an accumulation; both personal & public; of a year’s worth of harm & abuse we have experienced from other’s … & vice versa … the Day of Atonement is a day to especially wear the ‘crown of thorns’ in anguish for injustice & injury, the emotional psychological damage … well, someone wonderful removed the crown of thorns from the head of our Saviour Yeshua … I often wonder who that was? … but, I believe it is symbolic of the absolute power & glory of forgiveness … the emblem of mental anguish is removed & relieved by someone … Someone … guess who? … so, atonement is essential as we are not on a spiritual holiday of ‘diplomatic immunity’ … we also are not to become over-burdened with the care’s of the world & suffer near annihilation of our souls … we can only become the bearer of many crosses when Yeshua complete’s his work of progression in us, from salvation, to consecration, then to the final sanctification, when we are released from the world & it’s negative influence … & also there is now no longer any need for sacrifice of substitute’s … Yeshua was, & is, the final sacrifice … although we need the Temple experience, it is now metaphorical as far as the outer Court is concerned, but becomes very much internal, & our Reality, in the Holy of Holies … Amen & Amen … Hallelujah! … Atonement is Everything …
